Under the direction of third-year head coach Galen Hall, Rhein recorded the first winning season in team history, finishing in first place with a record of 7–3. The Fire lost to the Barcelona Dragons in World Bowl `97, 24–38. Quarterback T. J. Rubley earned all-World League honors and was named the league`s offensive most valuable player.
