In January 2002 the DCMS produced a list of closed Listed swimming pools and Broomhill Pool was on that list. However, this was not generally known to local residents and it was not until February 2003, when the Ipswich Evening Star[3] carried a front page headline asking if Broomhill was now "Doomhill", that people realized the lido might be permanently closed.
