The Junior Women`s Hockey League is an ice hockey league established in 2007 to provide opportunities for young females to develop into collegiate student-athletes. A successful league in only its first season, the JWHL has seen 18 players sign with NCAA Division-I for the 2008-09 season, while 5 players have skated for the U.S. or Canadian under-18 national teams. The JWHL was developed to bring together teams that regularly produce NCAA Division-I . The league was planned to expand from 4 teams to up to 10 teams for the 2008-2009 season. The JWHL has teams in both the US and in Canada and will be entering its fourth season of play in 2010-11.
