Introduction of this class started in 2002 and the sets were initially branded as NSB Puls, though this brand has been phased out. A BM72 train consists of four cars. Like other commuter trains the carriage has five abreast seating. The windows on a BM72 are considerably larger than those on the BM69 trains. All the 36 trains were manufactured by Ansaldobreda, and styled by Pininfarina.
