The second Bristol was launched 29 October 1944 by Bethlehem Steel Co., San Pedro, California, sponsored by Mrs. August Frederick Eberly; and commissioned 17 March 1945, Commander K. P. Letts in command. Bristol departed San Diego 13 June 1945, en route to Pearl Harbor, arriving 19 June 1945. Arriving at Guam 29 July she Joined TG 30.8, a logistic support group supplying TF 38. On 5 August 1945, Bristol collided with Ashtabula. Bristol's bow was damaged and she returned to Guam for repairs. Repairs completed 1 September, she departed for Far Eastern occupation duty. Her tour of duty ended 21 February 1946, and she returned to San Pedro 15 March.
