The displayed motto "Astra castra, Numen lumen" (the stars are my camp, the deity my light) is that of the Knights of the Maccabees. The hall is situated just off the University's Whiteknights Campus, twenty minutes walk from the town centre, ten minutes from the University library and five minutes from the Royal Berkshire Hospital.
