High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! HMAS Huon (D50), named for the Huon River, was a River class torpedo boat destroyer of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN). The ship was laid down as HMAS Derwent, for the Derwent River, by the Cockatoo Docks and Engineering Company Propriety Limited at Cockatoo Island, Sydney, New South Wales on 25 January 1913. The ship was launched on 19 December 1914 by Mrs Jensen, wife of the Honourable J.A. Jensen, Minister without Portfolio.
