High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The ASK 13 is a two-seater glider that was built by Alexander Schleicher. It was and still is widely used for ab-initio training of glider pilots. In 1965 Rudolf Kaiser continued development of the two-seated Ka 2 and Schleicher Ka 7 by introducing the ASK 13. It uses a mixture of materials, including metal, wood and glassfibre. It has swept-forward single-spar wings, positioned lower than in the Ka 7, which allows for a large blown canopy providing a good all-round view for both pilots. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The ASW-15, designed in 1968 by Gerhard Waibel and built in series by Schleicher, is a glass composite sailplane, with shoulder-mounted wings and all-flying tailplane. The placement of its single tow-release is a compromise between the ideal placement for winching and aerotowing. The later ASW-15B had several improvements, including a tow-release placed on the plane of symmetry, an 11cm taller rudder, a slightly larger main wheel, and the provision of a 90 litre water ballast system. The ASH 25 is a two-seater high performance Open Class glider manufactured by Alexander Schleicher until September 2008, originally with a 25 metre wingspan. Designer Martin Heide (the 'H' in the type designation) combined the wing of the World Championship winning single-seater Schleicher ASW 22 with fuselage derived from the Akaflieg Stuttgart FS-31 which had particularly low drag. The prototype was designated 'AS 22-2'. The span was increased in later versions to 25.6 or 26 metres with winglets. Данное издание не является оригинальным. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! Schlieren photography is a visual process that is used to photograph the flow of fluids of varying density. Invented by the German physicist August Toepler in 1864 to study supersonic motion, it is widely used in aeronautical engineering to photograph the flow of air around objects. Its role is changing due to the increasing use of computational fluid dynamics, where the same principle is used to display the computed results as flow images. The basic optical schlieren system uses light from a single collimated source shining on, or from behind, a target object. Variations in refractive index caused by density gradients in the fluid distort the collimated light beam. This distortion creates a...

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The RS-15 is a Richard Schreder-designed metal Racing Class sailplane that was offered as a kit for homebuilding during the 1970s and 1980s. The dominating aesthetic feature of the RS-15 is its pod-and-boom fuselage. The forward fuselage is a composite molding, and the aft portion is a 6" diameter aluminum tube. The V-tail is essentially the same as on other contemporary Schreder sailplanes, differing only in detail design from that of the HP-18. Unlike Schreder's HP-series gliders, the RS-15 was intended to achieve more modest performance, sacrificing performance for a shortened build time. Данное издание не является оригинальным. Книга...

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The HP-15 sailplane prototype was designed by Richard Schreder as a personal mount in which to challenge the 1969 U.S. National Soaring Championships. With an extreme 33:1 aspect ratio and a relatively low empty weight, the HP-15 was expected to generate less induced drag and therefore higher performance. The type achieved excellent glide ratios in fast flight, but had disappointing climbing ability. This was due to extensive flow separation on the upper wing surfaces during slow flight. After the Championships Schreder re-winged the fuselage to produce his next design, the HP-16. Данное издание не является оригинальным. Книга печатается по...
